The Falkirk Wheel is 35 metres in diameter and weighs (including water) 1800 tonnes. Rotation is by a geared axle, with an operating cycle of approximately 15 minutes. The Wheel is expected to be commissioned by April 2002, in readiness for the Royal opening in May.
